MvcMusicStore.mdf cannot be opened because it is version 655. This server supports version 612 and earlier.

Hi all,

I've downloaded and added the MvcMusicStore project to Visual Studio 2010, but when I try to run it, I get the following error:

The database '.....\APP_DATA\MVCMUSICSTORE.MDF' cannot be opened because it is version 655. This server supports version 612 and earlier. A downgrade path is not supported.

Any ideas on how to resolve this? I am running SQL Server 2008.

Kind regards,

Erwin

Erwin - This error usually occurs when you have both SQL Server Express 2005 and SQL Server Express 2008 installed. You can adjust your Visual Studio settings so it uses SQL Server 2008, as described in this blog post: http://conceptdev.blogspot.com/2009/04/mdf-cannot-be-opened-because-it-is.html

Alternatively, you can create the database on your own using the SQL Create script found here: http://mvcmusicstore.codeplex.com/SourceControl/changeset/view/9299484ae233#MvcMusicStore-Create.sql

You can change which SQL server instance is used by going to Tools -> Options -> Database Tools -> Data Connections Personally changing that didnt work for me. It would only use my SQL Express installation. I eventually just downloaded 2008 Express and did an upgrade. Worked fine after that.
